Reversing Camera (Backup Camera)
A reversing camera shows the view directly behind the car on the dashboard screen the moment you select reverse. It reveals the area you cannot see over your shoulder or in the mirrors — exactly where a low wall, a post or a small child might be.
It makes reversing both safer and easier. Many cameras overlay guide lines that bend with the steering, so you can see the path the car will take and judge the gap to obstacles without leaning out of the window.
It is most valuable in exactly the situations rentals often face: an unfamiliar car in a tight, unfamiliar car park. Pairing it with parking sensors gives you both a picture of what is there and a sense of how close it is.
Use it as a major help, not your only check. Glance over your shoulder and use your mirrors too, since the camera shows a fixed view and can miss things approaching from the side. Keep the lens clean — dust and rain can blur it.
