Micromobility
Micromobility covers small, lightweight vehicles for short trips — most visibly the shared electric scooters and bikes you unlock with an app and find dotted around many cities. They are made for journeys too short to be worth a car but a bit far to walk.
Their sweet spot is the "last mile": the gap between a transport hub and your final destination, or quick hops across a city centre. They are cheap, quick to grab and avoid the hassle of parking a car altogether.
They sit at the opposite end of the spectrum from car rental. A rental is for distance, luggage and independence over days; micromobility is for nipping a few blocks or finishing a journey the bus or tram started.
For a traveller the two can complement each other: a rental for getting between cities and exploring the region, and a shared scooter or bike for short, parking-free hops once you are in a town centre.
