Airport Surcharge
An airport surcharge is the premium you pay for the convenience of collecting your car at the terminal. Airports charge rental companies a fee to operate on site, and that cost is passed straight on to the customer, usually as a percentage of the rental or a flat amount.
It is why the same car can look cheaper from a downtown branch than from the airport desk. For a short rental the saving from a city pickup rarely beats the taxi fare and time to reach it; for a long rental it can be worth the detour.
At Moroccan airports such as Casablanca (CMN), Marrakech (RAK), Agadir (AGA) and Tangier (TNG), meeting your car right at arrivals is a huge time-saver after a flight, which is exactly what most travellers want.
The key is transparency: a fair quote shows the airport fee up front rather than springing it on you at the counter. Always check whether the price you were shown is the airport-inclusive price.
