SUV (Sport Utility Vehicle)
An SUV is a tall, spacious vehicle that combines a high seating position with extra ground clearance. It gives a commanding view of the road, generous space for people and luggage, and the confidence to handle rougher surfaces than a normal car.
In Morocco that versatility is genuinely useful. Main roads are good, but trips toward the Atlas mountains, rural villages or the edges of the desert can mean rougher tracks, and an SUV takes them in its stride where a low economy car would struggle.
It is worth separating two things, though. Many SUVs are two-wheel drive and styled for comfort and space rather than true off-roading; if you actually need to leave sealed roads, look specifically for a 4x4. For most travellers a regular SUV is about room and ride height, not dune-bashing.
The cost is higher rental and fuel bills. If your driving is mostly motorways and cities, a mid-size car is cheaper and easier; choose an SUV when space, comfort over long distances or some rough-road ability genuinely matter.
