Blind-Spot Monitoring
Blind-spot monitoring watches the areas beside and just behind the car that your mirrors do not show. When a vehicle is sitting in that blind spot, it warns you — usually with a small light in or near the door mirror, and often a louder alert if you indicate to move that way.
It targets one of driving’s classic dangers: changing lanes into a car you could not see. A quick mirror check can miss a vehicle hiding in the gap; the monitor keeps an eye on it constantly and flags it before you start to move over.
It is especially reassuring on multi-lane roads and faster traffic, exactly the kind of driving where a missed blind spot is most dangerous. On an unfamiliar rental with unfamiliar mirrors and pillars, that extra check is welcome.
Let it support your habits, not replace them. Keep doing your shoulder check and mirror glance before changing lanes — the system covers a zone, but a proper look remains the foundation of safe lane changes.
