Isofix
Isofix is a standardised set of metal anchor points built into the car that a compatible child seat clicks straight onto, instead of being held only by the seat belt. It creates a rigid, direct connection between the seat and the car body.
Its big advantage is reducing mistakes. Belt-fitted seats are easy to install loosely or at the wrong angle; an Isofix seat clicks home and often shows a clear indicator when it is locked correctly, which makes a secure fit far more likely.
Not every car or every child seat has it, so the two have to match. When you book a child seat with a rental and want to use Isofix, check that the specific car has the anchor points and that the seat supplied is the Isofix type.
Even with Isofix, give the seat a firm tug after fitting to confirm it is locked, and follow the seat’s own instructions. The system makes a good install easier, but it still rewards a quick final check.
